Wendi Geller, Director of Volunteer Services at MorseLife Health Systems

Wendi graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, IN with a B.A. in television production. As with many, her career went in a different direction, and she found a path in Volunteer Management. After staying home with her child for a few years, Wendi was hired at the Lifelong Learning Society at Florida Atlantic University. She was given the opportunity to shape the volunteer program. Wendi’s personality, vision, and nurturing style led her to gain the respect and confidence of her managers and the volunteers. She listened and heard how deeply these volunteers cared about the program. While Wendi implemented necessary changes from leadership, she also listened to feedback from the volunteers. With such open communication and mutual respect, the program blossomed. Wendi is proud to call many of those volunteers her friends to this day.

After 10 years Wendi was hired as the Volunteer Coordinator by MorseLife Health Systems to create a volunteer program for their new hospice. Again, Wendi jumped in, learning about hospice care and listening to those around her. Wendi became an advocate for the hospice program, providing information and quelling disinformation when it appeared. Post-Covid, Wendi became the Director of Volunteer Services for all MorseLife, tasked with getting volunteers back on campus and in the community after a two-year shutdown. The program is flourishing with volunteers providing socialization, pet visits, music, art, meal delivery, and more.

Having come to her career through a circuitous route, she knows that being successful isn’t dependent on a specific background or degree. Wendi heard more than once from her teachers on her report cards: “Wendi is a very social girl.” They were correct. And it’s perhaps her greatest gift.

If you listen, surround yourself with mentors who care about your success, check your ego, and aren’t afraid to be a ‘very social girl’, you can fly.

Isabella Solano is the founder of Herralink, an intergenerational program that connects high school students with residents in senior communities in Northern Virginia. Under her leadership, Herralink has grown to engage over 1,000 volunteers from about 100 high schools and bring friendship to more than 2,000 residents across 15 senior communities. Isabella’s program was acquired by Goodwin Living in early 2025, and she now works there to scale Herralink’s impact.

She remains active in county initiatives: she serves on the Fairfax Social Connection Committee, leads an anti-ageism program that uses art workshops to connect young people and older adults, and participates in the Dementia Friendly Fairfax Action Team, one of several partners recognized in the county’s SHAPE. In her previous roles, she’s served as a Director of Admissions at Dulles Health & Rehab Center. Through these roles, Isabella continues to champion intergenerational friendships.
